hi.
  yesterday took the trooper out and had problem with the turbo not kicking in i could hear it as normal but the truck wasnt picking up when the turbo should kick in which was a right struggle going up hill.had no smoke issues so dont think its blown.any advice would be appreciated

First thing to do is whip the inlet pipe to the turbo off (couple of clips) and check that you can or can not spin the impellor with your fingers.

Sticky rear brake caliper will do that too , just  look at the discs after a run .

check the manifold pressure sensor isn't blocked up

check the hoses after the turbo to inlet could be a hole.
i think tho it would smoke if there was a hole. other thing it could be is a blocked diesel filter they do strange things when they cant supply the fuel

quick update took inlet pipe off and impellor spins freely,checked hoses and pipes couldnt find any leaks ,quick question where abouts is the manifold pressure sensor

If your turbo was not kicking in then you would definatly feel no power what-so-ever. All it serves to do is heavily block both inlet air and exhaust gasses out. The truck will struggle to get anywhere above 30 mph. I would think its something else thats the problem. Check your air filter hasn't gummed up .. or even better for the sake of £10 replace it.

on a euro2 engine it's at the front of the inlet manifold with a pipe going to the manifold itself, on a euro3 engine it's at the back and is fitted straight in to the manifold no pipe.

hi just had a mechanic friend take a look and he seems to think its the cat converter ? could he be right

could be they do block up so just disconnect the exhaust at the joint above the main oil filter and give it a run,
