They're a fixture in the motor now. |

Thing is, I watched that helecopter circle and I new he couldn't see us. I thought bu66er, I haven't brought the flares.
I have flown in chopers in the army and you can't see things on the ground. That is the reason I have flares for my boat. Think about it.....
Open sea, a white boat and the chopper is having trouble finding you. When you have the clutter on the ground, inland, what hope is there of seeing your target?
I also have my marine radio. The emegency services refused to tell me if they monitor the marine emergency chanel inland..
Safety equipment is something you never want to use. Next time. |

He could see us, he even said he was looking for hazzards before landing, please dont try and put a down on things with hindsight.
Hmmm maybe we need a deffib machine and a paramedic with a full disaster kit
Or maybe not,
Accidents are very rare in the off road scene, this is the first one in many years that I have seen (apart from BBQ burns)
I think it went like a well oiled machine, I didnt see any flaw at all. _________________ |

I really cant see the issue, the pilot circled the field to access the situation then landed, he had a grid ref that put him within 100 metres, lots of trucks in that grid square.
So what makes you think he didnt see us apart from him being a total idiot that doesnt know his job
Sorry for being abrupt but I need to know _________________ |

I understand that he circled the car park first and they all pointed him in our direction. Don't get me wrong, he did a briliant job.
It's just that it can be confusing. I saw that rescue thing on TV and the chopper was up Ben Nevis looking for someone.
Lots of people on the track all the way up the mountain, all waving at the pilot! |

The Pilot had been told to look out for a red 4x4 sat on top of the hill, next to some power cables. He also had a full OS grid reference. He saw us from quite a distance, then circled to fully assess the ground before putting her down. At the end of the day it's the pilots choice as to where he lands. Job done.
If you want to carry flares in your motor, then you do so, but I don't think they're a necessity, and I wouldn't like one to go off inside the motor whilst I was bouncing over a rock somewhere.
I've been off roading, both casually and in competitons for nearly 17 years now, and that is the first time I have come across an incident that required outside help. I think we all handled it extremely well.
The law of averages says we won't have anything like that happen again for a very long time. _________________

It was an 8 figure grid ref - puts him within 10 metres of us.
And the flare thing was only a suggestion, it was looking more towards the pilot being able to judge wind direction and speed, with the added advantage of being able to see us sooner.
One of the paramedics who arrived first said it was SOP for the pilot to do a 360 sweep first before putting down so he could look for hazards etc.
The main thing is, as Twister says, we all handled it extremely well _________________ LTM: 000136

In good daylight one of the best things to do is create a large H symbol on the ground... easy to do with a load of coats & hi-viz jackets. The pilots will always spot these _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

In all fairness he would have still circled to check for hazzards, He knew where they were from the grid referance and robbo's truck. _________________

I have seen them land a few times at various places - they always circle to check out landing options etc. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

It was a huge relief to see the first 2 medics as i was starting to shiver (shock more than cold as i was well wrapped with donated coats )
but to hear the unmistakable sound of a werlly bird makes you feel like the whole hospital had just arrived. AWESOME _________________ aka x66dag
