Hi all, sold my trooper in the summer for a more economical van to get to work in and have just been offered my mates Deli for a good price. problem is it has a fault so i'm hoping some of the guru's can point me in the right direction. Basically, it had a new cylinder head in March and since then my mate bought a Shogun sport and hasn't run the Deli much, but when it runs it overheats and water drips out of the expansion tank. Could it be a sludgy radiator or something simple or has the cyclinder head not been done right? Andy help greatly appreciated.

as a guess sound like the head wasn't skimmed or has developed a crack
does the header tank bubble when running ? _________________ karl

Yeah, sounds like a cappucino machine..... if the head needs skimming that's a big old job then. He paid about 1500 to have the new head fitted. |

Quickly jump back in there - would a new head need skimming? Scuse the ignorance as this is more in depth than my mechanic knowledge! |

Those delis have wind problems, they can get airlocked and need to be burped, do both front and rear heaters work ? _________________ |

They do both work, though me mate took the thermostat out to stop the overheat issue - how do you burp them? |

Both heaters on hot and get the front end up high with the cap off then run it, or same as but drive it up a steep hill, also check the rad hoses for both getting hot.
Odds are it is the head gasket but its worth a go just to be sure. _________________ |

Just a wee bit more info - the fault has been there since the new cyclinder head was fitted - he should have taken it back to the garage but hey ho |

The rad cap |
Just got back in from trying to burp the *beep* -couldn't see rad cap so took the expansion cap off and also opened a bleed nut and lots of air did come out. The took it for a short run out and there wasn't any bubbly water dripping from the overflow pipe. maybe it hadn't reached temperature so will have a look after the snowy work journey tomorrow morning. Really hope it's this simple and not the head! Will report back. Thanks for your advice so far |

bad news, on the journey to work this morning the temp guage went to red hot and I had to top up with 1.5ltrs coolant. Tried to burp him but no avail. Does this point to head gasket and if so what's the likely cost for that - bearing in mind it had new cyclinder head a few months ago. |
