Not sure the temp issues are the same on the wheel studs and nuts. I guess it is personal choice, and whether the true cause of failure is known, rarely I guess on a head gasket unless you spend more than the cost of the bolts and a new gasket having it all checked/machined, and then it was probably a duff gasket which was damaged on installation! |
It could be said there is a small temperature issue with wheel nuts from the brake drums or discs and the stresses are in numerous directions.
Personally I have never had to resort to having a block face skimmed but I always have the heads planed before re-assembly

I have EXACTLY the same symptoms as above except I can go 400 miles and only us a litre of water then go 40 miles and lose 2.5l.
Also the water is BROWN.
Also the gauge will be rock steaedy ten jum up to RED in 20 seconds then 20 seconds drop back down.
I'm hoping this is water pump rather than head......
What do you think? |

If the water is brown then it probably is just plain water with no anti-freeze/coolant in it. I'd give it a good flush backwards and forwards and fill with the appropriate strength coolant. This not only prevents the coolant freezing in the winter but also aids heat transfer, ups the boiling point and prevents corrosion, plain water is bad. _________________ Phil

Hi guys.At last ive found a great site involving troopers.Anyway a loss of fluid with no tell tale signs of damp patches under vehicle is always a good indication to a head gasket or head failure.when engine is running, header tank or radiator should have no sign of bubbles or foaming.Funny thing is the heafd gasket always seems to fail at no 4 cylinder,How do i know ive done my neighbours 3.1 93 big horn in the summer, and now ive just done my own vehicle a 3.1 92 bighorn.job took 3 hours from start to finnish found the local dealer a waste of time as the big horns are imports wanted nothing to do with them.tell tale signs on both big horns was temp gauge sitting normal to jumping into the red then back to normal this would happen in about 40 secs.If you experience this prob do the job right away and save your self a hell of a lot of hard earned cash.Mate paid £900 for a new head. |

Hi
I am finally getting around to doing this job that i started talking about months ago. One more question - just how important is the head gasket thickness thing? I notice Milners only list one size. Also, is there any advantage at all in paying more than double for one from an Isuzu dealer??
thanks |
