Hmm, 13.91 volts on the red /white wire at the ECU plug but  no volts on it where it comes out from the 4wd switch ?

Am I reading that right ?

yes sir, nothing on wire red wire on 4wd switch when it is pressed in.

I got  13.91volts red/white wire at ecu plug with 4wd switch not pushed in.

and 0.02 volts red/white at ecu plug when switch is pushed in.

Sir Gribble:

Are you referring to the motor that will move the actuator beside the transfer case?

it is raining heavily right now, and I cant get under the trooper right now. In previous test, it is my buddy auto electrician who got under the trooper and not me. but all the reading from my post about the 3.59v  plug voltage up to the last post is done by me.

It would seem that from the posted readings the 4wd switch is at fault along with multipin plug H25 .

You must have 12v across the switch to supply the 4wd ECU so you could try linking it out ?

H 25 may bet fault as you have 12v there when the switch is off which goes when the switch is closed.

The readings at the t/box motor don't change so it's getting no volts to work !

Sir Gribble:

I will try to change the 4wd switch later, I got one spare 4wd switch when I bought a spare dashboard, just wondering Sir Gribble, the spare dashboard cames from USA which is using the TOD system instead of SOTF system. wiring might be different on the switch?

Sir Gribble:

After pulling out the 4wd switch, my previous color is a bit off. there are 4 wires red/white, green/red, blue/white, red/white

1st 4wd switch out 13.92v, 0.07v, 13.91v, 0.11v
                       in   0.01v, 0.07v,  13.91v, 0.11v

replacing the 4wd switch with my spare one reading is
                     out 13.82v, 0.06v,  13.86v, 0.10v
                       in  .02v, .06v, 13.86v, 0.10v

Sir Gribble, is it possible to take a photo of the wire socket of the 4wd switch?

I want to check the location of the 4wires coming out of the socket. I bought the trooper as a used car, I dont know if the previous owner had some instances repair the 4wd system and alter the wires position inside the socket.

Well that was some very good info I have just read.Thankyou for so much info and the time you have taken to write it.I just need to re, cap.Is this correct please? To engage 4wd, I need to be moving. I press the button on the dash. And move the small gear lever from High, to "4 low"as it says on the stick? This is nothing like my old Monteray, so I don't want to cause damage by not under standing this properly. I have the 3ltr trooper, 2001.

You can do it on the move, hence "Shift On The Fly", but you don't have to,you can engage it whilst stationary.
To change from Hi to Low or visa versa you need to be stationary otherwise you'll get lots of gear grating  Wink

Make sure you only use 4WD on a slippy surface, the trooper doesn't have a central diff and using 4WD on tarmac will cause windup and possibly something expensive could let go.
