So I've come over all redneck and bought a Chevy BVlazer to replace the trooper (sorry guys!)  It has a single point gas conversion on it that runs fine when driving but once its warm is a swine when you're sat idling.  It hunts up and down and on a couple of occasions stalled.  Its runs absolutely beautifully on petrol so I don't think its an engine/sensor problem.  I have read that LPG is harder to ignite than petrol so it needs the ignition system to be in tiptop shape and that often problems like this are just down to a weak spark.  Is this the case?  Does anyone have any experience with LPG systems? The seller was saying its gradually become harder to start on gas over the last two or three months so it may well just need an engine service.

I'm going to give the thing a proper full on service anyway so new cap, rotor, leads, plugs oil and filter change as that gives me a good base to work from and hoepfully that might sort it out, if not then I guess it needs to go to an LPG specialist to sort it out.  Like I say, ran well on the motorway as I've just done nearly 400 miles fetching it down from the land of men in skirts, got about 230 miles from a 60L tank of gas at 75p/L its just the idling thats the issue, ended up just flicking it back to petrol when I came off the motorway.

Its also got an intermittant ABS fault I need to sort out, occasionally at low speed it knocks on and  sometimes the abs warning light is on so it may well just be down to a loose/*beep* wheel sensor looking on various forums.

Other than that its corking, very comfortable, smaller than the trooper more along the size of the wifes X-Trail but I really don't need something as big as the trooper so she's gotta go in favour of something a bit more fun.

If i remember correctly an lpg vehicle has the gap in plugs slightly different to petrol only, I would research the lpg side of the vehicle, do the service yourself then take it to an lpg tuner to fine tune it. depending on what system it is you might be able to get the software and lead to plug in and fine tune yourself.

BTW Has the Troop gone yet as i might know someone wanting one, If it hasn't could you let me know how much please, On here or pm Wink

I've been told I shouldn't use platinum plugs with LPG, is this true?  If it is thats a bit of a *beep* as I've just ordered six AC Delco double platinum plugs which are the OEM spec for the engine.  Does this mean I need to go back to good old (much cheaper!) copper plugs?

Well they arrived this afternoon and they aren't platinum which is what I thought I'd ordered and what it said on the website, they are in fact Irridium plugs which I understand are fine with LPG, they also carry a 100K mile warranty!  I'm also pretty impressed with the service too, ordered them on Thursday afternoon from a company in Wisconsin and they arrived this afternoon.  I ordered the filters from a company in Bedfordshire at the same time  and they also arrived today!  Didn't get slammed for any tax either which is good.  Just got to grab a couple of gallons of anti-freeze and I'm good to go.  Oil I bought a 20L drum of Chevron 5W30 fully synthetic from Costco for about £40.

Yeah, its supposed to be pretty good stuff too from what I've read.  I was running the trooper on their 10W40 diesel oil with no problems.  They obviously buy it in bulk and get a very good deal.

I attempted my first service on the Blazer yesterday so everything was new to me. Done the air filter, nice and easy, started on the plugs, the first one (no 6) actually snapped in half whilst undoing it, I wouldn't be surprised if they are the original plugs as they are AC Delco Platinums and I think the service interval for them is 50K miles, its done 68K and judging by the fact you could drive a bus through the gap and the outside is rusty I'd say they sure as hell weren't changed 18K miles ago. Second one came out OK, third one which is the front right, well what a total git to get to, its tucked up tight against the exhaust manifold and directly behind the steering column and top shock mount. In the end I had to give up and drive to Halfords to buy a wobble bar which was the only way I could get to it. My hands just don't fit in the gap to start it off either. This is going through the wheel arch to get to them. To be fair I did start on the difficult side, the other side was easier to get to. Even just with new plugs its running a huge amount better, it even started up on gas for the first time from cold.  I still need to change the dizzy cap, rotor and leads I had to give up as I need to order some decent torx bits  so I can actually unscrew the cap and rotor arm screws, they are Buried under so much wiring and pipework its untrue and right at the back between the engine and the bulkhead, I think its head torch and mirror on a stick time.  Most of the misfire on overrun has gone, just a hint of a pop in the exhaust but I reckon that will go when the rest is done, I'm guessing that cap etc are also the originals.  The I've just got to find the fuel filter which is somewhere on the chassis rail and change that and then an oil change.  The oil filter is a remote one hidden under its own little flap in the carbon fibre sump guard just below the rad and looks like thats been there for a while too.

Brakes are very similar to the trooper ones and I reckon they need a good cleanup and grease so they slide freely and then theres loads of nipple to grease (ooh err missus)  After that I can get on with the fun stuff like fitting the CB and aerial and fabbing a roof light bar which is going to carry four Hella FF75's as low profile as possible and then fit the big Hella Jumbo 220's to the front bumper.
