Pretty excited about it, had it imported from Japan. Heres a few pics, I am thinking it came in a Frontera since it doesnt have a top mounted intercooler. The engine itself seems to be in good condition, its very clean first off. And there is a timing belt replacement sticker on the cover!
This one has EGR valves, and my old one did not.

Curious about the electronic switch on top of the injection pump as my old one doesnt have it.

Any ideas on the engine itself? Wondering if I can throw the old intercooler on top from the other engine, would I need to change anything on the injection pump? Or perhaps I should front mount the intercooler? It has a different center piece over the top of the engine with some sort of vacuum valve.

That top plenum is the UK 2.8 Trooper version. You can swap it all for the inlet and top mounted intercooler.

Thanks for all the kind replies, I am thinking of intercooling it- either with the top or front mount. What size should I use for the front mount? And the flywheel looks like this:

Is that a dual mass? Why should I change it? What are the disadvantages/benefits?

I am using a FMIC out of a Landrover TD5. It's based on my target of 200bhp.

How well does that TD5 intercooler fit in there? Are you running AC as well? Looks like they are sourced pretty cheap over there on eebuygum. Is there any specific year that will work better than others? This is getting exciting...

AC..........LOL, it's Ireland I live in, only important thing here is decent wipers.
Any TD5 intercooler will work, they are the same size as the Frontera one but about twice as deep. I have it mated to a 3.0 turbo. Now that I got my air leak cured, it's sitting at 129bhp. Next step is to get the fueling optimised and look at a boost increase. I figure I'll top out near 180bhp and then if I go with propane injection I hope to hit the magic number.

I didnt really think about your location before I asked that.  Laughing What are the dimensions on that intercooler, as they did not have the TD5 engine here so sourcing one will have to be done by size. Would an intercooler from a '99 4.6 ladn rover be similar?
I like your target BHP, I will definitely watch your progress.

I removed the EGR's, I need to make some blocking plates now.

I also removed the exhaust flap, and today will probably take out the intake flap as well. I am thinking about trying to source a 3.1 oil filter housing/cooler assembly so I can run the larger filters and have a larger dump pipe for an upgraded exhaust. Either that, or get a remote filter adapter to screw on and mount the filter assembly higher on the bulkhead. Its just the 26mm x1.5 int a common thread over here, so I might have to tap one for a different application. Ill post over in the classifieds for the filter mount and see if I can get one reasonable.
