Now a friend of mine runs his small fleet of vans and his new leased L200 on a 50/50 mix of diesel and recovered hydraulic oil which he has plenty of. He has offered me the hydraulic for free and I want to know if it will ruin my engine. I'm driving an 06 plate Isuzu Rodeo 3 litre Auto.
Help please as he is a mate, he knows I am skint so is trying to help me but I cant afford a new lump if it goes wrong!

I wouldnt like to say if its legal or not as the oil isnt a fuel oil free from road duty tax like kerosene or red.
We used to use it in the machines at work but that was 45-1 kerosene- hydraulic oil, basicly like a 2 stroke petrol.
Your mates new L200 is pobably the 2.5 and an old school engine with a few sensors, so my answer is Dunno.

So what about the 3.0 l Isuzu lump any risks?
The reason I am asking is he is a mate and offering the stuff for free, I dont want to offend him but he is thick skinned enough so far to keep offering when I have said no!

Interesting to follow and watch this - we have barrels of the stuff !

When you say recycled, do you just mean filtered / used or treated in another way ?

a diesel engine will burn any oil when the engine is hot (old school engines) newer engines, far too many sensors telling an engine how to run

In my experience with two 3.1 that have the direct injection, precombustion chamber cylinder head and low pressure mech inj they run on any mix of oil that is thin enough to flow freely, and it is the indirect injection, precombustion chamber head that is the key to using any old oil as fuel. More modern diesel engines eg 3.0 with direct inj and yet more recent engines with digital computer controlled inj sys need fuel that conforms to the expected viscosity, sprayability and pump ability expected by the computer controlled systems.

I found a barrel of industrial hydraulic oil, fallen off the back of a lorry and mixed it with dinosaur diesel and ran it through my 3.1 no probs, not sure that would have been a good idea in a rodeo...

Now I am confused, the 3.1 is indirect as it has a chamber, the 2.8 was direct,,, ( direct means just that, no chamber)
