|

I've had a bog standard 60L tank for about 4 years now, and I've been promising myself a bigger tank for a while.
Walked into Pets are smart at home r us, or whatever it's called, the other day and they had a 160L tank with cabinet on offer. So that's mine and Cathy's Christmas presents sorted .
It's 100 x 40 x 40, and has 2 filter pumps. It takes 8 filter cartridges. Bit of step up from the single filter on the old one.
I've just 3/4 filled it today, with a sand base, and I reckon it's going to be a few days before It settles enough for me to even see the back of the tank
The guy in the shop reckoned I'd be able to move the fish into it in a couple of days . Don't think so . This is going to be a long process . _________________

You'd be suprised my 190 litre tank clears in no time, I did have a tank once with a white sand base but i couldn't get on with it so went back to gravel but some species of fish can't get on with gravel and need a smooth subtrate. Are you getting rid of your other tank or having two? Reason i ask is if swapping tanks use some of the water from your old tank for the new one and it wouldn't hurt to wash your new filters in some tank water with the old filters or even better use the old filter in the new tank for a while, I'm sorry if i'm telling you things you already know but as i found in the past it's heart breaking to lose fish in a new tank. Good luck with it, I love my fish
You'll have to pop us a pic on _________________

Hadn't thought of soaking the filters in the old water. I'm going to introduce about 10 litres of the old water to it once it's cleared, and then a couple of the ornaments, although I reckon I'm going to get some fresh live plants. I've got to be very carefull, coz my old tank still has snails, and I would like to leave them in it . I'm going to have to put a bit of gravel in it for the Loaches too. They seem to prefer it.
Reckon I'll need a few more fish eventually too _________________

Here's mine (to give an idea of size the submarine is about 2 foot long and the root about 20" high)
I have recently put a T5 light unit on it too it was a T8 unit (what a difference) at £85 quid it hurt but well worth it.
Excuse the mess at the bottom of unit i'm having a clearout and about to go mad on eebuygum _________________

Yep i should think you'll fit a few more in
Snails can take over very fast
I can't have live plants The silver dollars eat them in no time. _________________

Dunno , but the cats are going to think all their Christmases have come at once . They're already transfixed by the old tank. _________________

Our cat sits there and watches the biggest fish, She tries to pounce now and again (if we don't see her wagging her back end first) but the fish aren't in the least bit bothered _________________

Since I fenced the pond in as Owen kept trying to catch the fish with his hands and the grounds nice and soft
the boss has finally relented and has allowed the pond extension to commence _________________ aka x66dag

Well, 24 hours later, and the water is still like skimmed milk . That's the trouble setting a new tank up with a sand substrate. It doesn't seem to matter how well you wash it.
Reckon another 24 before it's clear. _________________

I know
Took a couple of pics this afternoon. Not very pretty at the moment
There's 10 litres of the old tank in there, and I've since got the air pump going I could actually see the back of the tank about an hour ago, so I did a spot of landscaping. Guess what ............ can't see it now _________________
