Well, when I first started this post fully synth 5w30 was like gold dust, however, now it is being more widely used on standard road cars it is becoming a bit more readily available. It has now turned up at my local car parts shop, and it is exactly the same stuff, sold in a 5 litre GM bottle. _________________

As we all know ( ) this engine should be run on fully synthetic 5w30 oil in the UK. To date Isuzu will not sell this to you in usable quantities as they only stock it in 45 gallon drums. However, their "sister" company, Vauxhall sell it over the counter in 5 litre containers at their dealers, labeled as a GM product. This is the only place I have ever found this oil for retail sale. So, pay a visit to your local Vauxhall dealer the next time you want to do an oil change . |
Hello Mr Twister. a quick question for you on your oil post.
GTX Magnatec seems to be 5w30 oil. Is this the same?
There is also another GTX product called EDGE, which appears to be marketed for VW and Audi owners, but it is double the price of magantec, but still has the 5w30 prefix. Do you know if any one has tried either?
Cheers, Big Deka. |

5w30 oil is now available in many forms ... 5w30 refers to the viscosity (thickness) of the oil, the GTX / EDGE will refer to the techology/marketing behind the oil. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

As far as I know GTX magnatec is not fully synthetic. As for the VW Audi oil, I think youll probably find that it is in fact 0w30, and I have tried it, and it is too thin on cold start ups, causing worrying rattles on a cold engine. _________________

Hi Guys, Do you think using 5-30 Semi-synthetic would make any difference?
Kind regards, Derek Findlay. |

The 3.0 is best run on fully synthetic... because the oil is pumped across the oil rail which in turn powers the injectors a semi synthetic can break down. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

Gday all, Newbie here from way down under.
Ive joined this site because I have a 4JX1 in my Isuzu Wizard (Differant badging for differant countries).
I use BP Visco5000 5w40 in mine and always change both filters at the same time.
I see the small filter is refered to as a "secondry" filter here which can cause confusion. This filter has nothing to do with the normal engine lube system, its for the high pressure hydraulic circuit which "pulses" the injectors.
The reason that these engines normally take a few seconds to fire is because the computer wont let it start until the pressure has built up in this system to a minimum amount.
Cheers

Hi Mate, What do you mean by pulses the injectors?
Kind Regards, Dek Findlay, Peterhaed Scotland. |

The oil is pumped at high pressure across a rail (gallery) fixed to the injectors - this oil forces on the injector and provides the power to fire diesel into the cylinders at super high pressure. _________________ Isuzu Rodeo Denver Max LE | 265/65R18 BF Goodrich AT LTM No.60

compared to the new generation of diesels the trooper oil pressures are low that operate the injectors generally it doesn't go above about 24 mpa the legacy diesel thats coming out operates between 140 and 180 mpa and when you think theres about 10 bar to 1 mpa thats a lot of pressure! |

Hi all - anyone know whether I can use Castrol Tection Global 15W-40 in this engine? I am running it in Zim so its pretty warm out here (also pretty difficult to get 0W-30).
Trying to find out if it is fully synthetic but no info as yet.

The 15W40 may be too thick on the cold starts... you may get away with 5W40 |
