Well, when I first started this post fully synth 5w30 was like gold dust, however, now it is being more widely used on standard road cars it is becoming a bit more readily available. It has now turned up at my local car parts shop, and it is exactly the same stuff, sold in a 5 litre GM bottle.

5w30 oil is now available in many forms ... 5w30 refers to the viscosity (thickness) of the oil, the GTX / EDGE will refer to the techology/marketing behind the oil.

As far as I know GTX magnatec is not fully synthetic. As for the VW Audi oil, I think youll probably find that it is in fact 0w30, and I have tried it, and it is too thin on cold start ups, causing worrying rattles on a cold engine.

ive found oil 5x30 wagbenetts and sons a13 rainham essex there no is 01708 555356 hope this helps people who r local

im using total future 9000 5/30 oil
its what the peugeot dealers use and recommended for the peugeot 207 gt hdi in the handbook so i got meself 30 litres from the local peugeot dealer ( helps when the wife works there as she can get staff discount)

The 3.0 is best run on fully synthetic... because the oil is pumped across the oil rail which in turn powers the injectors a semi synthetic can break down.

The oil is pumped at high pressure across a rail (gallery) fixed to the injectors - this oil forces on the injector and provides the power to fire diesel into the cylinders at super high pressure.

compared to the new generation of diesels the trooper oil pressures are low that operate the injectors generally it doesn't go above about 24 mpa the legacy diesel thats coming out operates between 140 and 180 mpa and when you think theres about 10 bar to 1 mpa thats a lot of pressure!

ok guys i see you talking about the secondary oil filter. where would this be posititond on a 3.0L, and plz say its easier to change than the large main 1. im having fuel probs with my 4x4 and maybe this filter could be part of the problem.

Hi all - anyone know whether I can use Castrol Tection Global 15W-40 in this engine? I am running it in Zim so its pretty warm out here (also pretty difficult to get 0W-30).
Trying to find out if it is fully synthetic but no info as yet.

The 15W40 may be too thick on the cold starts... you may get away with 5W40 Question
