|
|
I changed the filter on a 3.1 and although I haven't done my 3.0 yet (had it a week and oil change is 1st on the things to do list) the filter on my 3.0 looks in the same position (in the owners manual).
To change the 3.1 filter I used an oil filter wrench (looks like a set of plumbers pliers but with a grip the diameter of the oil filter) to loosen it and then slipped it between the driveshaft and what looks like a stability rod with millimeters to spare. I wasn't sure it would come out until I checked I could get the new one past the driveshaft.
If you put the wheels in full LH lock I found I could reach the filter through between the wheel arch and the tyre. It's a bit of a stretch and means you have your face planted in the tyre but I found it a reasonable alternative to having a pit.
Have used the filter wrench on other difficult filters and consider it the best tool I ever bought!
I found swearing alot helps too |

Sorry just realised DAB was talking about the fuel filter, not the oil filter |

Thanks for the replies lads.
Ya she's a 99 3.1TD alright.
It was reg. in Jan 99 so it's peobably one of those 98's you are
speaking of.
Well, all I can say is I'm delighted that it looks like she will
hopefully with a bit of care last much longer than I had thought,
which is just as well considering all the work I've just put into her!

Yes, decent oil. It's ACEA A3 B3 B4 API SL CF spec.
Why pay lots for big brands?, this and the Morrisons Havoline seem the best deals for those of us that buy oil in 5 litre cans. _________________ 2001 3.0 DT LWB Duty - Dragon Green Metallic. |

Hi . I'm a newbie to this site, have had a few troopers over the years , the 3.1 was a great truck and you could pour any old oil in her and she didn't mind. But have found with the 3 l its got to be 5w 30 ,fully sin, wouldn't risk anything else, its not that bad to get hold of ,halfords even stock it these days |

Havoline is or was the trade name of Texaco's own brand oil.
Have they sold it off? |

In 2001, Texaco merged with Chevron but the Havoline brand name was retained for all Texaco motor oils and other lubricating products along with anti-freezes. _________________ 2001 3.0 DT LWB Duty - Dragon Green Metallic. |
