having issues with my 95 3.1 swb commercial. the fuel is about 40./40/20 veg /derv / kerosine. it is a *beep* to start and will only rev up to 1500/2000 revs. and blow blue smoke when at the top end of that range. tried changing filter and running without it. any suggestions what i can try next. cheers. jack. or if you wouldnt mind calling me to talk me through it that would be even better. 07802500869 |

_ try running without intercooler on it and see if oil comes out of the turbo or the air inlet pipe. Does the dipstick tube have excessive pressure in it ? You may also have a fuel starvation issue too so try a direct feed of fuel from a can to the pump (via a cheap inline filter) _________________ www.independentisuzu.co.uk |

oh dear. it had problems running 90/10 veg petrol when temps got down to -5. so dropped the tank and drained it. put straight derv in and it was happy. went down a farm track and was ok. still not perfect. then was getting low on fuel so put 50/50 veg derv. and it went down hill again. veg itself looks fine. crystal clear and has bin settled. got it home and put a bit of kerosine in and still no better. oh. and the fuel guage has stopped working since the tank drop. engine has 152k miles on it. update. just drained tank and put derv in. no smoke but will only rev up to 2 and 1/4. so does this rule out a blown turbo |

The fuel lines on the trooper are only 6mm bore........far too small for veg use in cold weather. Fats in the oil coat the walls of the lines internally ( like cholesterol in veins) and reduces the bore even more. There are two fixes .............
1, change the fuel line size to 12mm bore ( I have done mine from new pick up in the tank to the heated fuel filter)...this is the permanent fix
2. Short term fix........... drain tank and then heat 20 ltrs of vegi oil to 60 ~ 80 c add to tank .....drive till it's gone this will remove the fats from the tank and lines.
3. ...not recommmend.... apply a blowlamp along the length of the fuel lines with engine running !!!! _________________ Currently driving 1993 3.1td Bighorn. |

just need to get it going until i have all the parts for twin tank. just waiting on pollak valve being delivered. would just leaving it to idle with a space heater a safe distance away do the same job? |

I am not saying it is safe to do that ( but I WOULD do it ). Basically you just need to get the tank contents above the melting point of the fats....20deg c should easily do it.
The pollak valve and twin tanking will not solve the small fuel lines issue though.... unless you are installing a heater in your tank and insulating it too. _________________ Currently driving 1993 3.1td Bighorn. |

The fats will have dropped to the bottom of the tank and solidified. That is why I said ' run it completely out of the heated fuel ' .
Removing the tank is a PITA. Why not remove the drain plug and warm it up again ....let it alll the fat drain out. _________________ Currently driving 1993 3.1td Bighorn. |

tank is clean. 4-5 blobs of sludge. not veg oil sludge though. and the heaters are flat plate heat exchangers done from engine coolant. but are yet to be fitted. |

got it running from a clean boat tank straight onto the IP, and ran fine, put the boat tank in the boot, it ran fine, put a fuel filter(still on the boat tank) and back to square one. tried putting it back to direct feed to IP, and its still not happy?? what next? change injectors?
oh, and i removed the banjo bolt on top of IP, and there wasnt a gauze.
cheers |
