"She will never be pretty" but a work in progress project for testing mods and ideas.

First day of ownership, (not so)fresh from the farm. Drove home from Coventry OK but blew all its rear diff oil out  Rolling Eyes (diff oil stinks too) and rear pipe fell orf.

Shogun wheels went on with road tyres for now.  Idea Wheel nuts are needed too if you use Mitsy wheels

then out with the saggy stained seats and in with the buckets. Mounted on standard bases to retain tilt and slide and standard belts too for ease of use.

Broken and bent front bumper replaced and correct year grill fitted.

Off with broken and bent rear bumper to be replaced by recovery point bar (full bumper WIP).

rear lights converted to incorporate what went with the bumper. Indicators in reverse and stop and tail in top section.

Last night I tested the theory that a Mk4 front end will fit a Mk3 without the Mk4 Wings. It does fit without the need for changing the slam panel but the bonnet doesn't line up with the Mk3 wings.  Rolling Eyes  Wings will follow but that wind deflector kind of fills gap quite well  Laughing

This weekend (inbetween cuppas with Pete88) I swapped the rear axle for a LSD of my old Monty 3.2 Auto. I'll keep an eye on the speedo vs satnav.

The old diff was a LSD itself but pretty buggered. I have never known the M12 nuts and bolts be so tight on one of these. The brake line unions were also pretty buggered which prevented me extending them on this occasion. Longer springs fitted, roll bars disconnected and bump stops trimmed too.

however........what dropped out of the new diff has worried me a little....the consistancy was like melted chocolate. It drives a bit noisy but I need to do another few flushes yet .

I also put on the bargain (£32 delivered) 25mm wheel spacers

and lifted the fronts to match the longer springs on the rear

What do you do with the ARB's, and does it give much extra travel? Mines been lifted 50mm on the suspenders and 40mm on the body so will it help offroad at all?  Laughing

ARB links are just clipped out of the way and yes a lift, especially larger tyre diameter and suspension, will mean you don't bottom out as much.

(One of plans is 37" tyres with no body lift)

Sorry, worded that badly, I mean will disconnecting the ARB's add to the travel I've now got? If that makes sense as well!
I know some vehicles are limited by the ARB's but are troopers?

I think you get more droop with the arb disconnected, depending on the length of your shocks.

Looking better now, hope the axle is ok after a flush!

Jd, the arbs do limit articulation, I've got quick release links as the body roll on the road can get worrying with them off!!
