|
|
Hi all,
The 4wd lever is stuck in the 4l position, I reversed it to disengage the auto hubs but nothing happened. I've jacked up the front and spun each wheel individually, as soon as I started to spin the wheel I heard a click, did the same with the other side and the same thing happened. The other wheel did not turn or the prop shaft turn when I did this, I presume the click was the auto hub disengaging as the front wheels are now in 2wd. I took the cover off the auto hubs and everything looks fine in there but the lever won't budge from 4l still and the 4wd light is on.
So the question is where do I look next?
It's on a 92 3.1 auto and was only in 4l for about 2 yards while I put it up on ramps to do some work under the front.
Thanks in advance

I take it it's an auto? Where is the gear selector while your trying to move it and is it still up on ramps with pressure on it? _________________

It's down off the ramps and i've tried the gear selector in park and neutral but the 4wd lever won't budge. _________________ Bighorn 3.1TD SWB (1993), 3" suspension lift, snorkel

My auto used to be a pig, I had to move the lever between N and P to get it out, but I did get used to it. _________________ |

Apart from Marks suggestion of going between P and N (they can be a pig at times) I'm stumped. If there's plenty of room where you are it wont hurt to move it slightly forward or backward in straight lines.
Someone will know though _________________

I had a similar problem at the last snows, i got stuck at lights trying to get it to move, just panicked a bit i spose, the old boy behind shat himself when i clunked reverse and shot back 5 feet, lucky he had stayed back a ways. 3 or 4 times back and forth and i was fine. Never used 4wd since just in case it happens again. Dont use it really anyway so will address the problem if it ever arises _________________ Hienkel Tourist 103 A1

I have a manual and I have to reverse a few feet to get it out of 4WD. Got into a similar problem to you with the last lot of snow we had.
As you say nicerass, the look on the face of the driver behind you at the lights is quite something when they see your reversing lights come on !!!!! _________________ Never let a meal go by----Empty sacks dont stand up!!! |

Pretty sure the autos have some sort of lock when in 4L, or its pressure on the transfer stopping the lever moving.
Try jacking the rear wheels off the ground
To get mine out it was footbrake on and move the gear to P then N then P,
Then I got a thud noise and it would come out.
This happened a lot until I had used it more then it was fine. _________________ |

As I read the post its low box 4wd Keiths stuck in not 4wd h ? Sounds like a T/box issue or just lack of use ,some pawpower might be needed . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Not to move the transfer lever. It;s to get the light to stop flashing Marky. _________________ Never let a meal go by----Empty sacks dont stand up!!! |

Just drive it while flashing, you are in 2wd and it will sort itself out. _________________ |

Problem sorted now, switched ignition on moved shift lever through p, r & n and tried to move 4wd lever at same time, a loud click and 4wd lever moves again .
Thanks for the tips, I love cheap fixes, thought I was going to be investing in a transfer box.
