hey all,
as our old 4x4 has now had it, we decided to not have 2 cars and get one to work for both, so looking at forums etc, we decided that a lwb isuzu was the way to go.
now, we tow quite a bit, heavy horse boxes, which was one reason to go with the "pull a house down suzy".
my question relates really to models, as i said we are going to get a lwb, and cash being a bit tight it wont be new, but we have seen a few and would like some help here, one is a 92 tdi 3.1, the other is 94 v6 3.2 petrol.
my thoughts are that the 92 turbo will be better as itl have more grunt and turbo will help up hills etc, am i right here or are they about the same?
cheers for any help
mark

Can't speak for the v6 but the 3.1 is certainly a great workhorse and would meet your needs no problem. All I would say is, if you're looking at a '92 make certain the chassis is solid and all the fuel lines etc are in good condition or you could be looking at spending a few bob keeping it on the road. Also check slider bolts in brake calipers aren't seized as they can be a headache to free up/replace.

For power i'd go V6 every time. If you can get an LPG converted one even better. Both Petrol and Diesel Engines are virtually bullet proof and its just rust and corrosion to watch out for.

The v6 has about 70 bhp more than the diesel iirc.

Really 70 bhp, im surprised theres that much difference, i thought the turbo would have compensated more. I believe the 92 might be a 3.0l not 3.1. I would like to find a lpg one if going for a v6, but under body or spare wheel one, i need the room inthe boot.
Well thanks for the help guys, you have all made it more awkward, lol. Smile

The 3.0 DT wasn't launched until 1998, so the 92 will be a 3.1.

The 3.1 turbo diesel was a stroked over-bored version of the 2.8 TD which was designed and developed over 30 years ago. Its a big pig ironed 4 pot diesel that uses the turbo to help get up to speed, not run races. Buckets of torque as opposed to BHP. Torque is what you need to pull heavy loads all day every day. More than enough to drag horse boxes, caravans, trailers, broken down cars, small houses etc etc.

The 3.2 V6 petrol was developed far far later and being a V6 also has huge torque gains. However the power and torque comes at a price which is its lower fuel consumption.
