|
|
Just swapped from IE8 to firefox coz IE8 kept freezing on me. The difference is amazing .
On speedtest the ping has gone from 60ms to 16ms, and the download speed is much quicker. Changing from page to page on here is instant, instead of waiting, wondering whether it's actually going to do it or just throw you off the site. It's like a new computer .
I do find it a bit odd that it's spellcheck picks up "firefox" as a miss-spelling though _________________

It's more than likely your IE8 is full of add-ons etc so try reseting it back to out of the box settings and try again, Firefox is sometimes quicker than IE but it should not really be that much and I suspect it will get slower as that becomes bloated to. _________________ I rather be a bender than drive a Defender! |

I'm on XP., so it was originally IE5, upgraded to IE8. It is very top heavy with security updates et al to the point it keeps hanging.
TBH, I only tried firefox because of on of its add-ons which was recommended by Chloe's guitar teacher for helping her to practice. So far I kinda like it, so I'm going to stick with it for a while and see how it goes.
Also I've found I'm having to run more and more things in compatability mode with IE, including this site. _________________

Hi,
Bit late to this party, but one of the good things about Firefox is
the variety of addons that you can just download and install from
the Firefox site.
One of the most usefull is Adblock Pro, which filters out all the 3rd
party banner ads that clutter up web pages and slow down load
times. Another is Noscript, which you can use to filter out 3rd party
referral sites that run scripts. Again, this improves response time.
Noscript blocks all script by default and you need to manually enable
each, so may not suit everyone. Needs a bit of clue to make best use
of, but Adblock Pro just works silently in the background, filtering out
all the ads.
Use of both can improve security as well. Have used Firefoix and the
above two addons here for years...
Regards,
Chris |

Well, what a palava I've had with Firefox over the last few days.
It did a silent update on the 9th to version 18. All of a sudden I started getting blue screen crashes. Took me a while to figure out it was Firefox causing them, as I'd just had 8 windows updates at the same time, so I had to go through all of them first.
Gradually I narrowed it down to being the new Firefox, so I thought I'd go back to the older 17.0.1. , only every single download link I could find anywhere was to the new 18. Poor show by Mozilla, they should give you the option to roll back to at least the last version.
I did find one eventually, through a 3rd party site that hosts older versions of all the browsers. Finally, I've got my PC back .
I tell you what though, whilst I was trying to sort this out I was using IE8. I'd forgotten just how slow it was . _________________

I'm still on Firefox 9 here, which ain't broken etc :-)...
