Simon/more x 4,

Sometimes (too often) when I log on to the site, it comes up without any of the recent posts flagged in orange although I KNOW that I hav'nt read the latest posts.

Also if I then laborously go through the site picking out posts by date and read them, the next time I open up, those posts will show up in orange as unread!

I am on a slow dial-up here, - cant get broadband- so is it an occasional glitch with the site or my end do you think? Other than this the site works fine, if slow- but thats dial-up for you.

Madmum,

Sorry, but what's 'logged out'? I can log out and back again several times (when this happens) but the site still comes up without orange flags each time so I give up.

daffyd, I can only explain what happened to me cos I,m no expert, but if you are using someone elses computer or log out ( the little icon,on the top right of the banner at the top of the page )all the posts are white but when you log in with your password and user name the new posts should be orange , Ican,t explain it any better but you could try shouting on morex4.

When you log in with user name & password, there's an option to be "remembered (i.e. you will be logged in straight away when you access the site from your machine.

If you're not getting the orange flags it's because either:

1. You didn't tick that box
2. You're logging on from somewhere else (i.e. different PC) or
3. Your computer doesn't accept "cookies" (the small files needed for the above to happen).

Easiest solutions:

For....

1. Tick that box next time that you log in. It'll stay that way unless you go to your internet options & choose Delete Cookies
2. If you're sure that you will be the ONLY person using the other PC to access ITOC, tick the box on BOTH machines (but be warned.... that means that anyone logging on to the site from either machine will be instantly on there as you.........
3. Run virus & spyware check. In Internet Options, Privacy, Advanced, ensure that cookies are enabled

Hope this helps

bbb

Thank Madmum & bbb for your responses. I think there'rs more to this than even the informed suspect.

Only this am when I logged on there were no orange flags. This despite closing last night in the normal way. And despite closing right down and logging on my dial-up 3 times no change so gave up in .

Later on, late this pm, tried again and all was back to normal !!!! Despite me being the only user, there seems to be anothers mind involved here, one of my PCs perhaps?

bbb, - as far as I can say, all the points you advise are 'ticked' and as I say most of the time everything is OK, just that when it happens its frustrating.

Regards,

Dafydd.W.W.

There is one other possibility, but it's a remote one. If someone else hs your log-on details & visits the site, you'd only see new post flags for anything entered since they visited (I reckon it's the FBI myself.......)

Simon/more x 4,

Its happened again, and after several days of orange flaglessness I took Madmums advice just now and renewed my 'log in', and hey presto all was restored in the flag dept.

Why should this happen? Should there be some (other) signal that my log in' has expired/been 'logged out' or whatever has happened? and why have matters righted themselves in the past without renewing my 'log in'.

I use no other machine and no one else uses it either.

Very puzzling to me. Please explain if possible.

Simon/4 x more,

The silence has been deafening from you both, to my original question and its repeat yesterday!

Its happened again today - why should I need to log in again, and seemingly haphazardly at the proogrammes whim in order to restore full working order?

Chris,

Not often enough! Will tryto be more strict about it and see if any noticable difference. But as I say,why should all be OK for a wek or more., then problems, then OK??

Thanks,

Dafydd W.W.
