Thanks to Jack Frost doing his stuff a few weeks ago I've been left with a wing mirror that's annoying the hell out of me......

For some reason I can't seem to find anything in the manual about replacing the glass, so the way I see it I've got 3 options....

1) Try to prise the glass off the backplate and just replace the glass

2) Try to remove the glass and backplate as one and replace

3) Replace the whole unit - not the cheapest option.

The rubber/plastic around the edge of the glass seems to have gone hard (AFAIK they're the originals), so I think trying to remove the glass from the backplate would end up getting rather messy. I'm leaning towards trying to remove the glass and backplate as one, and I'm presuming that it's held in place with nylon ball & socket type joints as with most other motors.

With having no diagram, I was wondering if anyone knows how many ball joints there are, whereabouts they are located on the backplate, and whether there's a specific order to "pop" them that makes the job easy.

What about just sticking a new mirror to it ? A lot cheaper if you can find one in motor factors

Have to say it would bother me too  Rolling Eyes.

As they say, "If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing properly"  Cool.

... and the no defrost would be a PITA too.

Hunter, thank you for the offer, and I may just take you up on it. I'll have a tinker with it tomorrow and see where I end up by the end of the day.

Well, that was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. Screwdriver in behind the outer edge of the backplate, and gently prise the backplate out. Popped out a lot easier than some I've done in the past.

Hunter, I've sent you a PM  Wink  Cool
