The main body of this topic is in the modification section, just thought I'd put a link to it from here ;

Thanks Mr T.

Very interesting stuff.
I fancy bigger tyres to give axle ground clearance, your 275/75x16 sounds good, you say they only rub at extreme articulation. To keep costs low, would it be possible to put 1" spacers under the rear coils and wind up the fronts to match ? so giving just enough lift to clear the tyres ?
I want to keep the body lift minimal as its my day to day motor, and my mum struggles to get in at standard height !! (maybe not a bad thing !)

I wondered if some rubber spring assister type spacers were available to put under the coils ? Any ideas ?

Cheers,

Yes coil spacers are available, but only from independent4x in the states ( I've tried everywhere in the UK, can get them for 4x4s or LRs, but they both have different diameter springs). Much easier to fit a pair of +1.5" coil springs from Explorer UK. Check out the links in the Susp lift doc.

I'm not being fussy, but
Its a link to a link then a link, would it not be easier just to put the doc here or merge the threads, i say this because i'm using dial up at the moment and its tedious to keep opening new pages Shocked

Hi Mr Twister,

Your Link to suspension lifting is very good. I want to lift my 1994 Isuzu big horn 3.1td swb by 2 inches. I phoned Specialist Leisure Ltd and they told me, their Calmini suspension lift kits will only fit american made troopers.
He also said that on Japanese Troopers or Big Horns, that you could only lift the rear end and not the front end because the Torsion bar was 8" shorter on the Japanese models as apposed to american models.
Looking at your thread has given me great hope. Do you think the lift can be done on my Model (Japanese model). Question

regards
Tony. Smile

Hi Guys,

Thats great news. Would I be right in saying that all I need is a set of bigger springs for the rear? Also, I am running 265/70/16 Tyres. Can I go any bigger/wider as I am driving in sand 10%-20% of the time.
By the way Markymoan, thanks for your help on "Loud Noises" thread.
You were right.I changed from Auto Hubs to Manual Hubs. No more Loud Bangs from front end. These Super winches are the buizz.

I'm now running at plus 3.5 inches front and rear ( I will do a detailed write up at some point ), the front is actually the easy bit, the rear is a bit more difficult purely because of a lack of parts suppliers in this country. However, there's nothing to stop you going to a spring manufacturer and having a pair of springs made up. As for tyres, I'm running 265/75R16, and I intend to go up to 285/75R16, which is a 33" tyre. Any taller and I think gearing would become an issue. Oh, and you won't find any suppliers in this country who have much knowledge about modifying Troopers. Everything I have learnt has come from the States via numerous web sites.
