Oh and you will need some coolant to replace the stuff that will be on the floor.

Neal re your post about brakes on facebook get an old flat blade screw driver cut a small slot in the blade so the spring will go in it you can then push the spring into place without it flying all over the place

Bit like those window trim removal tools. Good tip.

You still need 3 pairs of hands, a prehensile tail, and a full face steel helmet for protection Very Happy

Nah .. Grandad was referring to my moaning about putting drum brakes back together again, and how the springs never want to back where they belong without a fight.

Finally got round to getting my Anderson Connector Mod done on the Mk.II.

I have had the bits for a while. I was going to use a QWS switch for the relay, but working out what the wires did proved tedious and annoying. Instead I plumped for a simple LED rocker switch.

Next was to mount the relay and connector and wire everything up:

Then I chopped the clamps off one end of my jump leads and attached the other Anderson Connector to it:

Jumps Leads connected:

No more having to pop the bonnet every time I want to jump start someone, and also my jump leads are less likely to go walkabout as they are useless to most people. This also gives me a power point for other things as well.

Cheers mate  Cool

Instructions:

The LED switch is a simple on/off 3 pin jobby fed with an ignition live. 12v on one pin, earth on another. Last pin goes to the big relay in the picture to one spade terminal. The other spade terminal goes to earth.

The relay is rated at 200 Amps off eBlag. Two spade terminals. Two M6 studs. Spade terminals for the switch circuit. Studs for the battery power.

The Anderson connectors were off eBlag again. Got a pair of with terminals in one listing. The black cover on wire was another listing. The rubber boot for the jump leads was another listing. Opted for 175 Amp as the cables for my 5.0 litre V8 compatible jump leads are rated for that as well (25mm2).

Cables needed are as follows:

Black 25mm2 (rated 170 Amp). One end not terminated to fit Anderson terminal. Other end 8mm ring terminal. This should be suitable for either attaching to negative terminal, or to the chassis/body depending on preference.

Red 25mm2 (rated 170 Amp). One end not terminated to fit Anderson terminal. Other end 6mm ring terminal to attach to relay.

Red 25mm2 (rated 170 Amp). One end 6mm ring terminal to attach to relay. Other end 8mm ring terminal to attach to battery positive.

Pair of terminal boots to shroud the power cable studs on the relay.

Mounted the  relay and Anderson connector in a suitable place. Wired the switch to one spade terminal on relay. Wired other spade terminal to earth.

Soldered Anderson terminals to respective cables. I found this tutorial very helpful:

Link

Only thing I did differently was feeding the heat shrink on afterwards the other direction. It was easier to get over the ridge at the end of the terminal.

I drilled two holes in the front panel and fitted two rubber grommets.

Then attached the negative (black) cable to Anderson connector then to battery/chassis, going through one of the holes with grommet.

Next was the other (red) cable from Anderson connector to relay. I used one of the terminal boots on the relay connection to prevent potential shorting against the body.

Lastly was the remaining (red) cable from the relay to the positive battery terminal. Again I rubber booted the relay terminal.

You should now be done on the Truck. I then got my jump cables and attached the second Anderson connector as above, except with the rubber boot to give some additional protection. Make sure to put the boot on before everything else and the right way round.

Hope this helps. Cool  Cool

Needed some emergency roof rails:

Should do the job temporarily until I can weld some crossbars onto them.

Insured the Mk.II Bighorn for another year. Phoned up current insurer's. Got quote and agreed. All within 2 mins. £245 for the year as a second vehicle with 2 years no claims. £75 less than last year.

Hi, enjoyed the write up and wondered if the 31's fitted with standard suspension ?
I was thinking about putting 31's on my existing 93' Bighorn 16 inch rims

31's will fit with no modification. I was running with them on Vauxhall Frontera leaf sprung 15" alloys before and after my 2" suspension lift.

Crying or Very sad  Crying or Very sad

Friend was driving while towing. Got death wobble and flicked the truck. Tow bar unhitched and she did a full corkscrew and landed on her wheels pointing the wrong direction.

My mate walked away with a couple of scratches.

You can see the roof is stoved so she is a write off.

Bless her. She was a great truck and did us proud. Proper workhorse and just kept on going no matter how hard we abused her.

Testimony to how tough these trucks are though.
