Hi All,

I have just bought 20 lts of Veg Oil from Farm Foods at £9.95 for 10 lts.  We have put one container into the tank and which was three quarters full and went for a run.  No coughs splutters or any other problems.  So we will be using it in our Bighorn 3.1TD

Just carry a spare fuel filter for when it blocks up Wink the reason it blocks is that the oil cleans the tank and lines and all the dirt ends up in the filter. Other than that the bighorn will run with no problems in this weather Wink

New filter in the back and a nice bendy funnel to fill up with.

We went to the Isle of Wight on Friday, put in 10lts and topped up with diesel.  Drove down and she ran no problems.

The following day we drove around Newport and heard a clang from the rear underside, a look told us that the back box and tail pipe had parted company due to rust.

We paid a trip to ATS and came away £239.39 poorer.

We topped up with 10 lts of Veg Oil and filled up with diesel to the top.  After some running around we made our way by ferry back home it took less time than going, it seemed like traffic jams all the way down.

Again she ran no trouble so no need for the filter, but we'll keep an eye on her and not run her on 100% veg.

Excuse my ignorance. Is it that simple to run my Bighorn 3.1 TD on 50/50 vegetable oil and diesel ?

Looks like we could get the money back reasonably quickly if our Bighorn runs as well as she is.  Very Happy

But I'm not going over the top with the amount I put in, just to be on the safe side.
We'll run her for around a 1000 miles and then change the fuel filter.

From what I can gather it's OK to run 50/50 in the summer but I'm taking it slowly to make sure she's running OK.  I have heard that some bio-diesels wax and cause problems, so I think we will stick with veg oil for the moment.

Try it out the Bighorn 3.1 TD engine is really good and many people have told us it's ideal for running on veg oil.  As I said in the previous post ours is running really well.  What you need to do now and again is go for a run where you can open the engine up to clear any build up you may have.

I'd go for Haddock and Chips with Pea Fritters but they don't seem to cook to well  Laughing

I'd get a fuel filter just to be on the safe side.

I would get at least 2 filters. The first will last about 500 miles or so. The next longer as the residual rubbish gets in there.
