Hey everyone,  once again i am posting in need of help. On sunday went to b&q, screwfix, petrol station , then called into work, turned the car off, ten minutes inside , came back out , cranking but no start.  Checked the brake light fuse, fuel bleed on filter housing, white wire ( had an orps fitted in november 2011), still nothing. So i have the car back at home today and have overfilled the oil, still nothing. I have removed the orpcv, it didnt feel like it was stuck.the plunger in the centre moves freely, but i am a little unsure about its function .. The plunger with the slotted face moves about 4/5 mm but it doesnt move the small pin which is in contact with the solenoid pin, is this correct, and if so, is my next thing to check the crank sensor , many thanks in advance

Hi, yes my trooper is a runner again,  I stripped the orpcv down , cleaned it , re assembled it and the car fired up after about 10 seconds and has ran sweet ever since , what are your symptoms

Drove fine all night stoped switched it off now wont start again just turns over no attempt to fire. but will run on easy start. I have tried my friends snap on diagnostics but cant get it to connect. I havent checked the orpcv yet so will give that a go tomorow. Any other suggestions would be great.

Thanks for the fast reply great to have a bit of back up.

Its not a sensor as such its a mechanical valve, its on the right hand side of the engine block, sort of below the diesel filter, i found it easier to acess it by jacking up the car and removing the passenger wheel , im sure there is a step by step photo topic on here somewhere

PostPosted: Tue Jan 21, 2014 19:01    Post subject: starting issues with heater plugs Reply with quote

Hi, I have a starting problem on my Citation 3.0. Two of the heater plugs are not working, but my local garage cannot get the plugs out as they have seized in. They have tried heat, and a chemical releasing compound. They don't want to force the issue as that means taking the head off and probably some engineering work on the plug threads. Has anyone got any ideas for releasing the plugs so they can be changed?? Any similar experiences that have been successful would be very helpful! Sad

it is possible to remove the manifold and drill them out but it's a brave man that does it!

You say one can remove the manifold and drill them out???  Could you explain further please? Also surely there would be issues of materials entering the block during the drilling? My garage would rather not remove the head and drill them as they reckon this could cost £1000 once they have sent the head off to an engineers for drilling and re threading the heater plug points. It's rather frustrating to say the least, as the car is fine in every other respect!

If your garage reckons 1000 for that job I'd find another Garage , the Isuzu shop time to do a head gasket is 4.2 hours .

If you drill them out then you dont drill the whole thing out just enough to get an extractor in and unscrew the shell so no metal gets in the bores .

Its not an easy job and calls for skilled hands with experience .

a left hand drill bit  on low speed often works here .

I think 4 hours is impossible to remove and refit a head

heads never seem to go back well

gasket set £150

head bolts £50

drilling and bushing £100 ish

glow plugs £100

and £300 to £500 on labour

so not far off with £1000

we have swapped engines rather than do broken glow plugs

infact I have one now that's going to auctions to take a ducker on because of broken glow plugs

if you get two new ones in it will probably be best to go with slightly longer cold starts

disconnect the broken ones

cheers
