Morning All,
I've currently got a 1.6 '04' astra and it's a great car! However I've had it 3 months and still just a car to me :/
I've always wanted a 4x4 and having a look at some insurance quotes I realised I could afford a late shape Trooper! (3.0TD)
Now I know that it's going to be a bit agricultural, however what's it like to live with? I do a Daily 10 mile commute on the motorway how would it perform? I also need to rely on it so what are servicing costs like? How often are oil changes and what should I look out for?
Any advice is really appreciated!
Cheers |

They are very comfortable cars and great for motorway cruising. Its not like driving one of those Brummie tin-machines anyway!
I don't have a Trooper as new as a 3.0 and mines great, so I expect the later models to be as good if not better |

I've got a 2002 Trooper 3.0L - bought very cheaply - with a few problems I could fix easily. Almost everything is easily accessible - so maintenance is straightforward. On the negative side - you can't trust garages and/or dealers to do any work properly - as they rarely SEE them and, lacking experience, they can't diagnose anything that might go wrong. THIS FORUM will have to be your first-port-of-call for any future problem with your new toy!
They're a big and comfortable beast to drive - the 3.0 L will certainly exceed the speed limit by a margin of 30 MPH [!!!] and yet stop in a shorter distance than did my Hyundai 1.6 L saloon! [It also, absurdly, does better in a comparison of MPG!] There's even such acceleration that I can beat all the Boy-Racers at the traffic-light Grand-Pris, if I feel so inclined.
Mine's a commercial [2 seats only] - so it's NOT as quiet - but the 7-seat variant certainly would be! Having 4x4 - it'll go ANYWHERE - and pull the wife's car along behind - just for fun! I tested mine on the Emergency-Services off-road track a few nights ago and it went up and down slopes like a house-roof [and even ALONG these slopes - tilted sideways!]. My only problem was that one big rock ripped off my Tow-Hook and I sure got everything filthy! It was a BLAST!!! _________________ 2002 LWB Trooper 3.0L
I've done some major repairs, including replacing half-shaft, replacing fuel-injectors etc. |
