|
|
Hi all i have a 94 3.1 bighorn and after shes atarted and engine gets up some revs i get belt squeal but dies off after its warmed up. Now the battery wont hold any charge but starts ok off booster pack. Belts seem ok so im Wondering if theres a problem with the altenator. I recentley took it offroading and the engine bay is filthy, maybe contaminted the belt or altenator. Any ideas? Thanks all, Matt |

If the alt has gone through muddy water it will probably be shot. The best thing to do when it has got muddy it to wash it out straight away with clean water, They hate water but wont live through muddy water.
By the way, One post is enough, It will get a reply eventually _________________

I doubt it if it's dried in there but can't hurt trying. I'd put a multimeter on before doing anything just to make sure. _________________

Whats the volts gauge doing ? if its reading over 13V the alts probably ok but if its under that it will be lose belt or faulty alternator. _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Ignition on, volt gauge reading about 9, both belts seemed quite slack i can push them down about an inch but was dark so couldnt adjust anything. Is the altenator the top left unit and power steering pump top right? Thanks, matt |

I take it you have got aircon? If so and you still have the original adjuster it can be done but it's tight, There is a locking nut on the rear then use the adjuster to tighten the belt. I'm going from memory as my adjuster is fubared,
Someone else will tell you for sure _________________

Have a look through the drivers side wheel arch (can't remember for sure but) you might be able to get in from there _________________

Here we go.... multimeter reads 12.2 on battery when running so tried battery out of missus' car and it read 13.2 when running in the bighorn... so could it be corrupt battery ? |

Gribble would say test the volts out the alt on the B+ as what your measuring is the battery volts
But he cant log in |
