To great gurus of ITOCUK, My ever so reliable 3.1 mechanical pumped Monterey has been slightly misbehaving. Very randomly refuses to start, hot or cold, sometimes not turning over, immobiliser one would think. Sometimes turns over but not fire. Now has cut out driving several times, no performance change  just stops. Wouldn't start the other day, went for a walk came back and it fired straight away. Time to bin the immobiliser? No obvious diesel leaks and primer is pumped up.

Going for some booze, with hopeful expectation, and a proper search later Fanx! XXX

Have you tried the earth strap Pete?
Had similar issues on my Fiat Doblo 1.9 diesel and one of the tips I pick up was to get the black negative lead from a set of jump leads, clip one end onto the negative battery terminal and the other end clip to a good earthing point - engine block, gearbox etc. - and then see if it will start. Best to do this when the motor is in non starting mode. If it starts OK that will be a good indication that the earth strap is suspect.
There are other good tips on youtube using multimeter but the above was one of the most simplest I found.
