Hi fellow trooper owners I have a question if anyone can help I have a 2004 3/0 citation its a starting problem that's driving me mad from cold if you crank the engine it will not start unless you chase the starter if you turn off then re crank the engine starts straight away and runs well with me so far if you leave engine turned off for a few hours or less the same problem arises it gives the impression that fuel is running back this problem happens weather the engine is hot or cold the bit I can not get my head round if fuel is running back the engine would not run very well at all is there any one who could help me with my problem cheers

Hello and welcome.
How long do you crank for? This engine does not fire up instantly like most modern common rail diesels.
The ECU needs to see several signals before it will enable the injectors.
Mine starts between 2 and 3 seconds (timed) from cold, and that seems like a long  time while your cranking. But others on here talk about 5 seconds or more.
Maybe you are just stopping cranking as its about to fire and recranking while the oil pressure built up from the previous crank is still there so it starts straight away.

Sounds like fuel then. It fires on whats left in the rail and then stops as it has not drawn enough back from tank. Try pumping the hand primer next time before a cold start and see where you go from there.
