had trooper broke into and broke part of barrel housing I can get it to turn over but wont start up 1997 duty swb

sounds like it's got a coded key and the aerial around the barrel is broken

I had my  trooper swb broken into they broke bottom ov the housing where the barrel  the barrel still fits and the 4x4 turns over but wont start  there is a plastic ring round the barrel and if I juggle it sounds like its about to start any suggestions please

Hard luck!

There's nothing for it though, if the starter-switch is broken, you'll need a replacement - either NEW of from a Junkyard. I'm not familiar with the one on the Trooper - but on some cars, the switches can be replaced and still use the original key-barrel to turn it - saving the hassle of replacing keys etc.

If your car has an Immobilizer, though, it would work from a coil around the barrel [detecting the chip in the key] - which might be specific to the key-code for YOUR car. I'm sorry - I don't have an immobilizer - and I know little about them.

that ring is the aerial that picks up the signal from the key so it needs to be in the right place to read the key

3.1 does not normally have coded key

how fat is the key

if they have twisted the lot around could be one of the wires at the back

be carefull if its a mess sometimes the steering lock can re engauge
