Finally got round to removing the front bumper yesterday with a view to giving the winch a good service, and fitting my new Bowmotor to it. As is usually the case with jobs like this I'm finding plenty of other jobs to do along the way  Rolling Eyes .

The bumper itself is nice and clean on the outside, but the inside needs some serious attention and a coat or 2 of Hammerite. The wiring for the lights in the bumper needs re-doing, as the original TJM wires are rotting away, and the winch itself is going to need a good lick of paint too.

Anyway, I figured whilst I've got it all apart I'll strip down the winch gearbox, give it a good clean up and re-grease. Having looked on a few other forums it seems most people opt for using standard lithium C.V. grease. I was just wondering if anyone on here has any experience of doing this, and what grease they used ?

I use cv grease in mine, it seems to work well, then for the freespool you want light oil, don't get any grease in there or it will make it stiff to freespool if that makes sense.

Cheers Pete  Cool.

The freespool did appear to have a lighter oil on it when I cleaned it, although tbh it was just a thinner brown gunge than the rest of the gearbox  Rolling Eyes.

Deltaplex 2EP from Millers Oils, excellent stuff, with fantastic resistance to water ingression and high temperatures.
