That looks really tidy, I was impressed when I hard wired in my SatNav where the heater controls are, but that's very good indeed.  Cool

That looks great. I wanted to do this in mine.

Have you managed to get a different lower dash panel, or modified the original?

it's a modified standard panel, i got another in case this idea didn't work but i cut the centre bar out then with a sheet of plastic made a top part for the double din and glued that to more plastic i put where the centre bar fixed to the sides. this give me a base for some plastic filler to sit in which i rubbed down and then sprayed with a satin black paint.

It's the name given to a head unit like a screen as it's twice the size of a normal head unit which is a single
din

Greetings from Nairobi  Very Happy

I am thinking of installing the double din modification you did Eithan into my Bighorn. I am in the UK next month and wondered if you could please point me in the direction of where I can find the parts I will need.

I am planning to install a double din head unit, similar to the one I have in my 1998 Rover 75 which is a plug n play unit  from China. I have a link to this and I hope it is okay for me to post it up here.

Radio Guy

Eithan, please could I have permission from you, for me to share a photo of your double-din mod with Radio Guy on the Rover 75 forum? I am hoping it is compatible, as I have been happy with the one which is in my 75 in London. Cheers, Phil  Smile

Here is a photo of the dash on my Bighorn. It looks similar to Eithan's. Please do correct me if I am wrong. I just had the truck serviced at 79, 830 kms. The  plastic radiator head and seal had corroded, was losing coolant ++ and needed replacement and the thermostat was also replaced, as the old one was not coming up on the temp dial in the cabin.  The rear passenger door seal also had to be replaced. I picked up a spare set of door seals from a trader in Herts and since fitting them, there has not been any more water ingress, so everything is now running fine, touch wood!

Thanks for getting back. I would be nervous using an angle grinder but then needs must Smile Eithan what size of fascia panel did you use and was the adaptor a universal one?
Here is clip from the Rover 75 forum asking about your modification Eithan, they love.  I hope I got everything right.

Good morning Jeff. Eithan has given me permission to post up his photo of the double din. He had to use an angle grinder to cut out the separating bar in the dash to make the hole big enough to take a modified standard double din. He had 2 adapter plates in case he messed one up. He then used filler, rubbing down and finished off with a spray of Matt Black.

Thanks for showing us Phil.
Looks like you will have to go with a universal double din and do a bit of modification to fit it then
What facia adaptor did your friend use as I'm guessing it wasn't specific to your car?
