Hey there,
I have 2002 3.0L trooper.
2 days ago I was on my way for a drive, the car started on the spot but after a minute the engine turned off.
at my first few tries to start it it seemed like it wants to start but since then it just cranks over.
White wire disconnected - nothing.
Cleaned the orpcv and reinstalled it - still nothing.
could it still be the orpcv fault even if It is clean and not stuck?
Thank you!

In the drivers footwell is a set of fuses where the brake light fuse is .
The ecu relay 1 is powered from the brake light fuse so no brake lights no start. _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

I have brake lights..
Filled 2liters oil, still not starting.
Got a hold of a used orpcv, changed it and also - not starting.
Next is new magnet on the orpcv..hope this will solve it.
Very strange this whole thing. |

I would be looking at more basic faults first as the magnet can't be got on its own .
Have you got fuel coming out of the 17mm dome head nut fuel inlet at the front of the head under pressure when you crank over ?
Have you cranked long enough to get injection oil pressure up ,it's not the gauge on the dash that shows this .
Check that the erg flap in the throttle body has not stuck shut.
The next most likely is the crank sensors failed or gone out of range . Posts on here how to check volt readings and where .
The best way now is to have a tech 2 plugged in if possible as there are 3 main things to check , injection oil pressure is up to spec, crank and cam signals are being read and the ECU is getting 12v and on line with the engine . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

well, the magnet was not the problem..
I don't have tech2 i can use.
about the fuel - if i try to startwhile pressing the pedal - there is smoke coming out, so i assume fuel is getting to the injectors.
I cranked for about half an hour..is that enough?
the flap in the throttle body is good, not stuck. |

Not really no it's drive by wire so pushing the small pedal does nothing for the ECU .
You say magnet so I'm thinking your in EU land and no tech 2 ,ok then check the O seals between the injectors and the oil rail .
If there is white diesel smoke then injection has been enabled by the ECU ,so do do the test with the dome nut.
Troopers rust out on the steel pipes on top of the fuel tank and pull air in . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

I thought all of the orpcv's come with an electro-magnet on them..
There is no rust anywhere on the outside of the fuel pipes, what test with dome nut are you talking about?
Thanks!

BTW - when I opened the high pressure oil pipe - there was no pressure released, I know that the car hasn't started for a few days, but shouldn't have been there some pressure at least, because of all the cranking?
Thanks!

If you buy the ropcv new it comes with the coil but you posted -
"New magnet next " so I read that as you used the original coil on a good ropcv .
As to what I am talking about its a diesel engine so it needs diesel at the injectors to run.
The injectors sit in common fuel gallery and need low pressure fuel flowing through that to work which can be checked by undoing the fuel inlet at the head .
Injection oil pressure drops away within a few seconds of stopping the engine down to 1or 2 bar residual . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |

Where i am from, they would call me "schnitzel"..
After all my theories, all the checks, replacing the orpcv, filling more oil, opening the gasket cover, checking all the fuses and replacement key, disconnecting the "white" wire and almost opening the timing cover - I found the problem source!!
Who knew the r4jx1can not start with coolant water instead of diesel fuel...
