Help please !! Have a 99 3.0TD SWB Trooper. Starts, when cold, perfectly normal but within last week (totally out of the blue) refuses to restart once warm/hot. Cranks over as normal (at a good healthy speed having just renewed both batteries this summer) but no attempt to fire whatsoever. Hour or 2 later, starts as normal. It's as though a 'kill' switch which stops the engine, via the key, is sticking then frees upon cooling (or am I talking rubbish !!). Really appreciate any pointers. Thanks. |

Sounds very much like ORPS - the oil is more viscous when it is cold, seems to enable the injectors better then. The white wire trick when it is NOT starting will give you the definitive answer here. _________________ JDW

Hi Ladydriver. Thanks for that prompt response. But what exactly is the white wire trick? |

Best to put it in the search box to find the various posts on here that explain it, but it briefly involves disconnecting the white wire from the large connector block (black) near the dip stick tube on the bulkhead side. There are pink wires going into the connector on the other side which are from the individual injectors. the white wire which could well look off white/yellow with age when disconnected tricks the ECU in thinking that the ORPS is functioning property and will then enable the injectors.
Only do this when it is next NOT starting and expect it then to set a DTC error in the system. If it starts, that points to ORPS issues and this would need to be replaced. If it starts OK don't drive it with the 'white' wire disconnected - it is only a test. _________________ JDW
