|
|
Hi, I have a 2003 3L diesel Isuzu Trooper with a flashing coil light and a check engine light on. The engine will not start. It seems to be intermittent however as sometimes the coil light does go out and the engine will start, other times the light comes on and the engine cuts out whilst idling. I am not sure if this is related to my putting fuel into an almost empty tank but that is when it first started a couple of days ago. I live on a remote island and our fuel comes in 200L barrels, and thus the fuel can sometimes contain flakes of paint from inside the barrel. My Trooper was running poorly shortly after filling up, so I changed the fuel filter and it seemed to be running fine, but only for a few miles before the glow plug light came on and the engine cut out. I managed to get going again and got home, then it all seemed fine the next time I went out. It started fine when I used it this morning and only drove a couple of miles but I can't get it to start now. Are the two problems related or is this just a coincidence. How do I solve it, not being much of a mechanic......I don't even know where the glow plugs are!!? |

sounds more like an ecu issue, if you remove the smaller plug in the ecu does one of the pins look burnt? |

It's the big silver metal thing in between the air filter housing and the battery on the passenger side, pull the rubber boot back and remove the red lock tab then you can pull the plug out |

Thanks. There appears to be three connections with rubber casing on top of the "big silver thing". Which one do I remove? I tentatively tried them all but didn't want to break anything. |

Can you hear a click from the passenger side like a relay clicking when it's flashing? |

Hi Eithan, sorry been away for a few days. Got back today and tried it to see if it had miraculously fixed itself......and it seemed it had! The coil light came on for c8 secs and went out normally and the engine started. I left it idling but after a few minutes it cut out again. It then reverted to the flashing sequence (on for half a second, off for 3-4 seconds) with the check engine light on and flickering in time. I left it off for an hour and tried again.....and now the coil light does not even come on. |
