Long story cut short. My 04 3 litre Trooper refused to start after driving home and parking up for about ten minutes. The engine turned over but would not start. Green flag were called out and could not repair it and took it to my local garage. They had it for four months and despite many phone calls they kept fobbing me off with excuse after excuse saying that they were baffled and suggested that they had replaced the oil pump, sent the ECU away for testing and were now checking out the wiring. Totally passed off I had the car taken to another garage who found that the timing belt had slipped by five teeth, ( surprise, the original garage had replaced the belt for me last January! ). Anyway the second garage said that the belt had been replaced but not the pulleys and pensioners thus causing the original problem.I instructed them to replace the lot which they dully did but the engine will not turn over. The garage contacted Isuzu UK for advice but were told that they would not help and suggested that the car should be sent to them for repair. I have spent quite a bit of money on the vehicle so far and wonder if perhaps the engine has suffered fatal damage due to the timing belt slip. Anyone any advice please? |

If the engine wont even crank over, then the valves must be bent and mangled. Piston damage is possible.
Cylinder head needs to come off for inspection. |

I believed the belt is for fuel pump timing and the actual timing of the crank to cam is via gears so no damage would have occured ? |

robbo is right and they will bend valves if the timing is that far out, i've never seen one do it though and unless the bearings collapsed which again i haven't ever seen the only thing i can think made it slip would be if the tensioning piece was forgotten and not fitted when they did the original belt. |
