3.0L diesel will not start on first attempt no matter how long cranking. Always goes on 2nd after a second or two. Anyone any ideas on this one. Really annoying. Many thanks.

Im sure you are taking the time to heat it before cranking are you? It may be possible that even if you are giving it the time it needs to heat before cranking it won't start on first turn due to 1 or 2 heater plugs being knackared. Try switching ignition on and waiting till heater light goes out and do that twice before cranking. If it starts first attempt it's a sign it's your heater plugs are the culprit.

Someone else will have more knowledge on this problem I'm sure but that quick test wont cause any harm.

does sound like glowplugs, not a cery nice job to do on the 3.0....they seize in the heads for fun: I've got a spare head with a glowplug fully unscrewed, but still won't come out!  Shocked
They are buried in the engine on the NS of the motor, low down between the inlet manifold pipes  Wink
