My 1998 4JX1 starts OK then at completely random intervals after about 4 seconds of running smooth from start-up will suddendly lose power, then run rough to the point of stalling unless you put your foot on the gas. Even then it will only pick up slowly over about 3 - 5 seconds, sounding like its running on 2 or 3 cylinders and with lots of white smoke. After that it runs perfectly. Occurance is completley random - can be fine for 10 or 20 starts, other times every 2 or 3rd start. Just no pattern to it. If it stalls when running rough its a mongrel to start again - just have to still on the starter and keep winding it over. Holden Isuzu workshop can't find the problem because it won't happen when they've got it!! They've checked everything including replacing the loom (oily), checked for bubbles in the fuel line, Tech2 is saying sensors all OK. Any ideas please?? |

Well if you have an intermittent fault like that its good idea to keep a note of when it occurs ,hot or cold engine ,location, fuel tank level ,ect, ect.
Now it sounds to me like air in the fuel line so whats needed is a clear plastic in line filter before the fuel filter so when it plays up one look at that will prove its air or not in the tank lines .
If it seems not be in there the move the filter to the line from the fuel filter to the lift pump as the hand primer can give this fault too .
Next on the list is the suction strainer in the sump for the lower oil pump but I'm tending to think air in the fuel . _________________ 2 New Troopers ! |
