Hi, [1] Contact the main-dealer/importer with your VIN number and they should be able to give you the Key-Code which is specific to your car. With this you can order a new set of keys - get at least two keys - so that you can keep a spare at home and avoid this problem in future! That's how I replaced the tatty old [single] key I got with my own Trooper! If you don't find your keys, this is the only way to replace them - even if you DO break-in to your own car! Otherwise you'd have to replace the whole set of key-barrels with one from a junker [which still HAS its key!].
[2] The Trooper has an old-fashioned, mechanical, door-locking system - with simple linkage-wires to operate the door-locks. That means that even honest folks [given enough time and some luck] can break-in just like the car-hijacker kids did in the 80s. You start by getting a slim wire, or sheet-metal, hook [about 350mm long] and slipping it down alongside the glass in the door-frame and probe around until you engage one of the linkage-wires. If you have found the right one, then a gentle tug will disengage the lock - just like pulling upward on the door-lock-knob at the corner of the glass. It's just a matter of trial and error - it could take seconds or hours, depending on skill and luck. Don't pull hard - it won't help - if it doesn't move, you're in the wrong place!
[3] Like the door-lock, the ignition-lock too is fairly simple - so you can join the relevant ignition-wires fairly quickly and easily - with minimal damage. First remove the top and bottom plastic covers from the steering-column. Don't play silly-buggers with random cables - you'll just blow the fuses and cause yourself more problems. Find the right wires by consulting the ignition-circuit-diagram, then disconnect them from the switch and make the right connections [as shown in the circuit-diagram] by hand - This will engage the Starter-Motor-Relay and start the engine.
Good luck! _________________ 2002 LWB Trooper 3.0L
I've done some major repairs, including replacing half-shaft, replacing fuel-injectors etc. |
