Not sure if this is fuel, transmission or something more sinister! Drove up to Oxford and back (about 300 miles mainly dual carriageways) and on the way back it started feeling a bit rough. I had filled it with supreme diesel before I left ( not my usual fair). None of this may be relevant!

I have changed the fuel filter today but to no avail. Symptoms are - running just a smidge rough at idle but I only know because I'm used to what it usually sounds like. When accelerating through 1500 to 2000rpm there is a very distinct and, depending on how hard I'm accelerating, quite violent!

Acceleration not affected, pulls away ok. Going to check balancing, do air filter etc. But any other suggestions?

It might just help the worthy members on here if they could have a clue as to Sirs vehicle ?

My guess is its 1998-99  3.0 Trooper and its an injector(s) fault .

Apologies, was taking calls whilst posting this!

Ma'am's vehicle (sorry, I'm a woman just to add to the stereotype) has a 3.0l Trooper on an 02 plate.

I am going to have the balancing checked tomorrow but as the judder is not constant at a certain range of speeds (ie. Only when accelerating) think it might be a bust!

Get a long breaker/jimmy bar on the engine/gearbox mounts.

Gribble: Is there a rear prop centre bearing on the later trucks?

Might be worth checking the prop shaft UJ's. They will rattle about when there's a bit of wear in them.
You'll need to get under the truck and push the prop up and down, side to side at each end right next to the UJ's. If there's excessive movement in the joints, don't leave it to long before you replace them, can be a bit nasty if they let go at speed. Happened to me a 60mph and it ripped off part of the transfer box case.

I am still going along the lines of fuel / airflow issues at the moment.

All mounts and UJ's are sound, wheels rebalanced with no change.

I have chucked a can of engine cleaner in the tank with an incremental improvement in the judder and then cleaned the MAP sensor with another small improvement. I want to clean the MAF sensor but not sure where it is, if anyone could post a photo I would appreciate it (I'm a visual gal). Going to replace the air filter too as that was pretty *beep* too.

Bit early for a full clean and service bit I have done a fair bit of town driving so it's obviously just kegged it up!

Anything else I can clean while I'm at it?!

I'm not sure on the lwb but deffo no centre prop bearing on the swb .
Broadhoj, I'd probably avoid injector cleaner in a 3.0 as its just a kerosene based product and the very fine tolerances in the 3.0 injectors won't respond well to it .

Map and Maf are possibly the same item  depending on where you read it but Troopers don't have an air mass sensor just one that measures the boost pressure or manifold absolute pressure , how did you get a map sensor out on an  euro 3 engine as most on here break em trying  lol !.

You need to keep a good eye on the engine oil level as if an injectors about to let go it will creep up .

Apart from that next time your up near Oxford make an appointment with TrooperGod and his T2 .

Or Eithan as he is know .  Smile

OK, it's a manual for whoever asked.

I have now removed and cleaned EGR and throttle body with no effect other than far better acceleration. All filters and oils changed also. Having read other posts I am now assuming it is an injector failure as the gear stick wobbles significantly at idle and it's generally lumpy at low revs. I am also getting an intermittent check engine light when cruising, especially in low gear going slowly up our track but also when I back off the accelerator coming into junctions or just cruising through lower speed limits.

So, without spending vast quantities of money at a garage as I am broke. How do I check the injectors? Please keep it in layman's terms, I'm a scientist not a mechanic.

I cannot detect fuel contamination of either the coolant or oil so guessing it's not a seal that's gone and other than a bit of white smoke at start up and when cold there's nothing visible coming out of the exhaust.

Thanks for your help guys. Difficult being taken seriously as a woman in a man's world! Took delivery of parts yesterday and was asked where my husband was because the delivery must be for him.  Rolling Eyes

Tech2 is the easiest and cleanest but you could take the rocker cover off and pull the plug off each injector in turn with the engine running but watch out for oil going everywhere!!

The injectors need to be checked with a Tech 2 unit. Bonus of that is it also checks various other things at the same time.

Unfortunately you have to find someone with a unit. Isuzu dealers should carry one. They can also check to see if it has had the injector recall as well.

Failing that eithan provides an excellent service and knows these engines like the back of his hand, and how to fix them.

Unfortunately he is some distance away.

Not taking it to my 'local' Isuzu place. It went there last year after it broke down the day after I got it and it took them 3mths to fix it - not a priority apparently.

Anyway, there's a place in Salisbury I think. Might try them or ring the local diesel specialists and see what they can do.
