Can anyone give me an idea if a stuck or faulty EGR could cause a bad smoking problem on start up (plumes of white smoke a lumpy running for 2 mins tops a few revs clears it). If this is poss has anyone blanked of the egr with any sucess and if so could you poss give me a few tips on how to do it myself. What exactly is the purpose of the egr and where is it located and what does it look like ????

Many thanks

Barry

sounds like an EGR prob. the EGR valves on troopers are located on the right hand side of the engine and look like small flying saucers for want of a better description. They also have a small dia hose going to each of them.

Running behind the engine you'll find a steel pipe that connects via a two bolt flange to an aluminum manifold that the EGRs sit on. Place a small plate in this joint to blank off the exhaust feed to the EGR valves your problems should be solved.

Dont be tempted as some people suggest to just blank the hoses to the EGR's. This will stop them working but you dont know if they have failed open or closed, thus better to blank as i have suggested above.

good luck
