and what have you done to stop the anti theft light flashing?

they are the only symptoms, and to turn the anti-theft off, i put the key in the ignition, and locked the door manually (with the buttons), and and unlocked and locked the door a couple of times, and turned the key in the ignition a couple of times, and the anti-theft went off. i have checked all the fuses, and they all looked good.
the only other thing that it might be, (because i saw a thread on your forum about it) is that i had filled the fuel tank up to the top, because i am hoping to drive down to spain soon. if you have any ideas i will be very grateful

Try the white wire trick to rule out the orps as its a common sensor that goes wrong and causes non starts.

you need a new orps and ideally it needs to be calibrated to run at it's optimum but it will start and you can drive it without coding it in but it may under or over fuel slightly. can be fitted at home you will need to remove the rocker cover and have a ground down 14mm spanner to remove the sensor.

the white wire removal is for test purposes only don't drive it with it disconnected as it could cause engine damage due to the fuelling being wrong

Is there a battery on that side ?....If so remove to give more room, you'll need two spanners, one on the pipe nut and one on the fitting going into the non-return valve. Place both spanners so that they are in a scissor configuration then squeeze together with one or both hands.
Best to disconnect both batteries totally making sure you don't flash over onto the ECU casing.
