Tested them... and they are magic - totally transformed my motor.

I called in a local spot a few LR owners play on. Not sure how legit the site is ... but the guys say they have never had any trouble. One thing to watch is the stream... its about 4ft deep and they still drive thru it!

Still battling on ... and its still playing up! I did about 50 miles today on the m'way at a steady 80mph - tog to the end of the sliproad and it wouldnt set off again ... it didnt have the power even for first gear. After waiting a minute or so it finally set off like nothing had happened Shocked

im kinda puzzled!

Hi Chris,
I haven't read the full history of your 3.0 woes (brings back bad memories of mine!) but the last symptoms sounds remarkably like a fuel starvation issue. I had a 3.2 that would do exactly the same thing and was eventually traced to a blocked tank breather (the metal pipe at the tank was damaged) causing a vacuum. Presumably you have checked fuel filter, fuel filler cap, tank pipes, breather pipes etc?
I have always been lucky to have access to an old mechanic friend of a friend, who was taught to diagnose rather than use a computer. I speak to him whenever there is a prob that is difficult to rectify by normal means.

I do wish i could just get the damn thing sorted... its a great motor when running right - but as ever intermittent faults are soo hard to solve and quite often expensive. Crying or Very sad

Yeah, that sounds like a distinct possibility. I've seen it happen when the wrong cap has been put on a car, some had vent hoses and some had vented caps. Put the wrong one on and boom, runs fine for a while until enough vacuum builds up to stop the pump from sucking any fuel. Stop the engine for a while and theres maye enough leakage to let the air back in slowly and it'll fire up fine. Got to be worth a crawl around underneath. Oh and next time it does it, get round to the fule filler and open it, if you hear air rush in then you know it's the problem.
