Hi Guys

Can anyone help me.

First off this is not  about an Isuzu Trooper but I think the question could apply to any vehicle.

Ok, the water temperature gauge has stopped working, by that I mean it doesn't move off zero even after the car is at full working temperature, I've pulled the plug connector off the sensor unit which is screwed into the crankcase.
Inside this plug are two connectors if I connect a multimeter between them and then switch the ignition on I get a reading of 5 volts.

My question is: If I wanted to test the water gauge itself could I simply connect a jumper lead between these two connectors, in other words bypassing the sensor and then turn the ignition on and see if the gauge needle swings all the way over to maximum or will using a jumper lead short something out or worse still blow the gauge up.

Thanks if anyone can help

Clive
