My 99 trooper i just found out i lost one front axle bolt that is in the rear where it goes up through the frame and the other just keeps turning now any of you ever had to replace them and how do you get to the area in the frame to put a nut on the new bolts.I just bought this last week and think the guy knew they were messed up the only thing i can think is to cut a hole just big enough to drop a nut and lock washer in.Unless you know a better way he has the 4x4 hooked up manually with a vacuum hose so i guess the vsv vacuum switch is bad

If it's where I think it is, sounds like the captive receiving nut as broken off it's welds. Had a similar problem on a Frontera and resolved by a mate and his MIG welder. He had to virtually lay across the top of the engine and reach down with the welder in hand to put a spot weld on the nut to secure. Not sure if he could see where he was welding or maybe just got very lucky but it did the job.

Yes it's a right pain, but if my thinking is correct, I'm not sure if the plate over the captive nut acts as a structural support. Maybe one of the guys (Neal if you could mate) can post an exploded diagram up of the offending area just to be sure we're not talking cross purposes. From the exploded diagram maybe other members might throw in some ideas.
Another train of thought is if the body could be unbolded and jacked up in that area. Might give better access. Would be a right pain but just an idea.
