IIRC....... Embarassed

ECM relay 1 is powered by ign, this powers the ecu and grounds ECM relay 2 switching a second power input to the ECU.

Check power at these two with ign on and other ecu plugs connected.

Will certainly do that ...  thanks

just come back in after earlier putting a digital meter on the two red wires of the small plug - with the ignition switched on ...

one red wire showed 12.7 volts - but the other only showed 1.36 volts.  Hmmm.

(Black earth wire and pin were OK and showed normal continuity to ground.)

Looks like a checkover of ECM relay 2 is needed.

Test it again when plugged into the ECU

Just spotted RR's two posts above.
Will be trying that tomorrow after overnight recharge of batteries. Thanks.

Meanwhile ... today I went to the breakers and got a complete (engine bay) fuse panel with all the relays and fuses on.
[From a Trooper that had recently come back from the French Alps but was beginning to be difficult to start ... the owner gave up on it and weighed it in.]

Tried swapping ECM2 relay - and then ECM1 as well - but still no start and only very low volts (less than 1.0V now batteries are down a bit) on the one red wire when harness is unplugged..

Two observations that may mean absolutely nothing (and be normal) :-
After turning over, non-starting and then switching off - there is a fairly muted beep-beep, beep-beep, beep-beep from behind the r/h dash.
At no time does the Anti-theft light illuminate.

When switched on , the "Check-Engine" light comes on - but as soon as you start cranking it goes off and stays off
(I thought, may be wrong, that I had read it should stay on during cranking ?)

Caught up today.

With plug3 in ECU and ignition on ...
now get 12.5/12.6V  at BOTH red wires but only 0.3V at red/black which should be about 2.5volts for "H1 injector".

So what causes that and what is the cure?

Also - have now fired up the anti-theft red LED and system - all OK.

Forgot to mention - my 'assistant' thought it wise to check the HPOP was actually moving oil.

So he slackened bottom nut on feed pipe to head and I turned the key.
Nothing at first - then '... a large bubble of air escaped - rather as though there was an air lock' and the oil started to spurt out - tightened the nut back up but still no start !

Further thought ... (it is now keeping me awake at night ... Evil or Very Mad )

When I put in the 'spare' engine I left the original (to that engine) crank sensor in place.
Now thinking I really ought to test it to eliminate it from inquiries - still have the one from the first engine that cracked an injector and damaged a piston.

OR test the original off the Trooper and if OK, slide underneath and swap it ?

Suspense is great ...

What is the result of only 0.3V at pin 5 ? Presumably all injectors "not enabled" ?

I have looked at many wiring diagrams in the 3,300 page manual but have yet to find the one that shows 4JX1 ECU/ECM plugs and wire colours - think I went to sleep after scanning many of them!

Mtk

Brilliant. Thanks. I'll have another look.

I was clearly in the wrong area of that huge manual.

Have always believed in reporting mistakes - so others do not make them.

When 'we' slackened the oil pipe off and cranked the engine ... yes we got oil after an air bubble ... but found later the pressure/flow had displaced the bottom O-ring and so when we retightened the nut (without checking  Embarassed ) - we trapped the O-ring and thus caused a leak. Very stupid   - with hindsight.

Temporarily put a normal O-ring in place [until I get genuine Isuzu items] and it seals - but still we have 'No-start'.
Checked white wire removal (still no start), signal pulses from crank and cam sensors, fuel at acorn nut, all electrical plugs connected, tank half full, etc., etc.
Cranks well - so not immobiliser.
Just been out to the dealer who used to sell these locally  - I was very polite but  "No, we haven't got Tech2 and our previous Trooper mechanic does not have a Tech2 - can't help and we don't want to get involved."

Looks like I might have to find some cash for a Chinese clone ... {and I hate buying anything Made in China}.
