Got Christmas out of the way.                   Happy New Year anyway !

Was lent an Autel DS708 to try yesterday. But sadly the Live Data Menu seemed to be limited to just 4 very basic parameters. So no further forward.

My new Chinese clone Tech2 ( even when powered by the correct leads/clips to a charged-up 12v motorcycle battery) simply 'scrambles and reverts to opening screen' when I try cranking to view Live Data.

It seems as if the connector does not sense the separate battery and shut off the working '12V' from the two vehicle batteries.
This what I think is supposed to happen?

Hello,
The solution to the problem with the operation of the Chinese Tech2 clone during engine start-up is the replacement of the dc to dc conventer. I can not post links to pages with instructions due to forum regulations. Look for google "Tech2 dc to dc converter".
I also had this annoying problem.

freefly.  >> I looked at spec for the RECOM converter (as listed by Youtube) - REC10-1205S/H2/M .

It has 6 pins as against the 5 pins shown in the video of a "Mornsun" unit  ?

Haven't dismantled mine yet.

Now I AM puzzled !

Looked at "Mornsun " VRB1205LD-15WR2  availability - found one - but it too has 6 pins rather than 5 shown in video ?

Have I missed one pin being cut off ?

I'm still alive !!

Trooper is not.
I must admit to becoming fairly demotivated after spending so many hours working on it and all the help I've had from 'eithan'.
Family issues have also got in the way. Plus buying/sorting a Suzuki Grand Vitara 16v 2.0 TD for my other half.

BUT I'm going to have another bash. I never like to be defeated.

Duff clone Tech2 was really the final straw with constantly rebooting when trying to read live data. That is after buying two brand new high-spec Yuasa batteries and trying to power the Tech2 from an independent 12V battery ...

Following advice I have just purchased an LM2596 DC converter with a view to modding the Tech2.
Will apparently also have to get a couple of other bits :-

"I replaced the voltage regulator with a LM2596S-based regulator, you find tons at eebuygum. These regulators have some advantages:
- very low margin needed, so the regulator works down to 6,xx Volts and Tech2 survives engine start on my car.
- the LM2596 has an On/Off-pin, to get the same behaviour as the original Tech2 to power on and off with the power button. Unfortunately the high/low-logic is inverse, so that I had to add a transistor (BC547) and two resistors (4.7k and 1 kOhm) to integrate it correctly. The pin 5 of the regulator had to be lifted from the board to solder a wire to it."

We'll see what we can do.
