I'll answer the question myself! No problem for the 2.8. But no listings for a 3.1, are they the same part?

Once the old one has been taken out, a local seals/hydrolics company should be able to sort you one out,

I want to get one before stripping it out of the 3.1 so need to know in advance. I have now got the Payen part number for the 2.8 so wondered if the 3.1 is identical. None of my suppliers have a listing for the 3.1.

The 2.8 is sorted already. Pushed the new seal in and used my spare clutch so it's good as new.
Want to be ready for sorting the 3.1 soon though. I'm not going to risk not changing the seal while the lump is out of the car because it's a 5hr job when you're laying on your back in the driveway Very Happy

Just found a great website from a company who sell gaskets & oil seals. They reckon the rear crank oil seals are interchangeable. Certainly the same dims. I'm now thinking the 3.1 had original factory seal and the 2.8 was a replacement.
I've ordered some seals and will report on the performance of the supplier.
The website is worth keeping as it lists everything well & can be used for cross reference.
