Does anyone know how long the glow plugs 'glow' after the dash indicator light has gone out?

depends on what the ecu thinks, if the engine is hot then they aint needed so it doesn't activate them but cold first fire up should be 3 mins to help condition the burn until the engine starts to get some heat in to it

What I am getting at is, I noticed the volt meter on the dash was below 13 after starting and confirmed so with a volt meter across the battery. I expected the alternator to come on-line quickly and show over 14v. it wasn't until I got onto the road that it came up. Just wondering as the glow plugs can stay on for 3 mins if cold, if they were on would this pull sufficient amps that the alternator could not keep up until they had gone out? No heated screen, seats or mirrors were on, no lights either or ceramic heater just heater fan.
