Hi all (and particularly Eithan please)

This is a very very intermittent fault and when it does cut out or not start, the glow light does not illuminate when you first turn the ignition on. Also, Tech 2 diagnostics stop communicating making it difficult to check data when the fault is there! I now know to source a separate 12v supply to the Tech 2, but of course the fault has not occurred since. When it has cut out you have anything between a few seconds and 10 mins or so, then suddenly Tech 2 communicates again and up she fires! I have checked 12 volt feeds to J3-1 and J3-2 good, plus earth to J3-3 and 4 good. No terms burnt. This fault is so rare to occur and when it does it solves itself again so quickly, you have little/no time for checking wiring etc. Only thing I have determined is the volts in the diagnostic socket are slightly lower than normal by 0.5 to 2 volts suggesting bad earth or connection somewhere, either in the wiring loom or the ecu (particularly to the rail pressure control valve and cam/crank sensors where I have known problems before.
Definitely NOT your usual problems as these have been replaced TWICE with new.
Today I have just swapped ecu's with a known good running vehicle and waiting to see if one of them cuts out, then hopefully I will be a little nearer finding where the fault lies.
So, to summerise when the fault occurs:-

Tech 2 stops communicating and reconnects as soon as the fault clears.
If you turn the ignition off and back on and the glow light does not illuminate (even for a split second) it will not start.
Voltage readings to 3 or 4 of the diagnostic socket terminals read between .5volt to 2volts lower than normal.

Any other thoughts suggestions welcome.
Thank you.  Chris
