Hi all new here I’ve just bought a 1995 bighorn 3.1, the charge gauge shows 12v and a multimeter across the battery when running with no lid after 5mins shows 12.8 at idle if I rev it to 3k it will sit at 13.1v with out load, ( will drop to 12.8 with wipers and lights.

If I removed the blue ray it makes no difference.

Does anyone have any ideas before I start by changing the alternator?

Thank you

I might add, it doesn’t always go to 13.1 on revs, it will sometimes only do 12.9

Check the belt, often slip on 3.1 without making a noise, check that the adjuster is not at maximum. Bad battery can also limit output voltage so if you can, try another battery. Otherwise get the spanners out.
