Don't be tempted to do the change with gearbox in place, it's a false economy.
Leave everything possible connected to the engine when you take it out and put it back in as it's much easier to remove & refit parts while the engine is out.
Label all the vacuum pipes very carefully.
Whatever else you do, check the rear oil seal & clutch while engine is out. If in any doubt replace before refitting.
Good luck & enjoy it _________________ 1994 KZJ70 Cruiser (currently filling the garage and causing some head scratching)

take pics with a digicam of everything before and as you're taking it off. if you miss something you can look at the pics to see where it went, and then you can do the "how to swap an engine" post |

siweb, did you install another replacement 4JB1-T engine or did you rebuild your original engine from your mk1 Trooper? If you went with another engine would you be interested in selling the other engine? Is it rebuildable? Your progress does look good I might add, hope you get it up and running soon. Get back on the trail for off-roading too.

I installed another engine, yes the old one could be rebuilt the top end has already been rebuilt.. Before we found out the bottom end was just as bad as the top, but the cost of the bottom end rebuild would be £700'ish (parts only) that about $1,249.34? and just not worth it to me.
So going the strip the engine down and keep all the top as spares. it has a new (rebuilt) set of Injectors as well and a newer turbo |

Great solution siweb....I tried to buy one engine from Bits for Isuzu in New Zealand (http://www.4x4isuzu.com/pages/1/index.htm), but they don`t ship overseas...
Those engines looks pretty good and are timing gear. _________________ all you have to do to call
